QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda Safari

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda’s most diverse and scenic safari destinations, stretching across the western part of the country between Lake Edward and Lake George. With the majestic Rwenzori Mountains forming a dramatic backdrop, the park offers a rich blend of savannah plains, crater lakes, wetlands, and forests that create an ever-changing landscape full of life.

The park is widely known for its incredible variety of wildlife, making it one of the best places in Uganda for a classic safari experience. Large herds of elephants and buffaloes roam freely across the plains, while Uganda kobs graze in open grasslands. Predators such as lions and leopards can often be spotted during game drives, quietly moving through the savannah in search of prey.

One of the most unique highlights of Queen Elizabeth National Park is the famous tree-climbing lions found in the Ishasha sector. Unlike most lions, these ones spend much of their time resting high up in fig trees, creating a rare and fascinating wildlife sight that draws visitors from around the world.

At the center of the park lies the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George. A boat cruise along this channel is one of the most rewarding experiences in the park, offering close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and a wide variety of bird species gathering along the shores. The concentration of wildlife along the water makes it one of the best places in Africa for boat-based game viewing.

Beyond the savannah, the park also includes forested areas such as Kyambura Gorge, where visitors can track chimpanzees in a dramatic, sunken rainforest valley. This adds a primate experience to the safari, making Queen Elizabeth National Park one of the few places where you can combine traditional game drives with chimpanzee tracking in the same destination.

The park is also rich in birdlife, with hundreds of species recorded across its different habitats. From open plains to wetlands and forests, birdwatchers can enjoy a wide range of sightings that further highlight the park’s ecological diversity.

A visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a complete and balanced safari experience. It combines stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, unique natural features, and a variety of activities that make every moment of the journey feel dynamic and unforgettable.
